    Substitute Pre-Employment Clearance (Appointment Only)

    • For Individuals interested in substitute teaching with a valid California Credential or Valid Substitute Permit please apply online and our office will contact you
    • If your credential or permit has expired, you will need to renew online at before your appointment

    Instructions for Obtaining a Substitute Teaching Permit Without a California Credential
    The following documents will be required for submission with your application:

    • Requirement: 30-Day Substitute Permit Application (Complete Application and Include the Following Documents Via U.S. Mail to CTC)
    • Requirement: Bachelor's degree or higher - official transcript MUST be in a sealed envelope
    • Requirement: CBEST exam results (A copy is acceptable. For information about the CBEST or other CTC exams, please visit
    • Application Fees $100
    • Requirement: Fingerprints - You will need to download the LiveScan off and be fingerprinted for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
    • Permit processing times are approximately 50 days from time of submission
    • Once your permit is granted, please contact to schedule a pre-employment clearance appointment

    • Substitute Pay As of January 1, 2022
      • Daily Certificated Rate - Increase from $150-$160 per day = 6.5 Hours Full Day and $80 Half Day = 3 Hours, 29 Minutes Per Day
      • Retired TTUSD Certificated Teacher Rate - Increase from $165-$175 per day
      • Long Term Certificated Rate - Increase from $175-$185/day Beginning the 11th Day of Employment for the Same Teacher/Group of Students
      • Substitute Pay for a Certificated Substitute with a Valid Credential accepting an assignment for a Classified Instructional Assistant Special Education is Range 11/Step 5 of the Classified Salary Schedule
    • Substitute Bonus Incentive (Paid at Each Increment)
      • 25 days = $50; 50 days = $75; 75 days = $100; 100 days = $125; 125 days = $150; 150 days = $200; 175 days = $250
