Cougar News is a weekly communication that comes out via email. This weekly update is brought to you by the ACMS staff in an attempt to keep parents and students informed as to the “happenings” at ACMS.
ACADEMIC TALENT SEARCH-
Are you interested in having your student take classes this summer at Sacramento State? The Academic Talent Search is an opportunity for motivated students to challenge themselves in traditional and non-traditional subjects, meet other students and experience the collegiate environment. The first step towards participating in ATS is to take the qualifying exam on Wednesday, January 23rd. Students taking this test will automatically qualify for the ATS Summer Program at Sacramento State. For more information about the test, please stop by the office to pick up an information sheet and testing sign up form by Wednesday January 23rd
FIRST TRIMESTER HONOR ROLL BREAKFAST-
Congratulations to the honor roll recipients! All of us at ACMS believe in recognizing students for their positive accomplishments. For the first trimester, we will celebrate all honor roll students with an honor roll breakfast. All of the certificates handed out this month will say, “Honor Roll,” rather than some saying, “Distinguished Scholar.”
Honor Roll and Distinguished Scholar criteria will be the following:
(1) Honor Roll: 3’s or higher in all courses, no 1’s in Citizenships/Work Habits, and no NP in their elective class
2) Distinguished Scholar: students receiving all 3’s with a minimum of two 4’s in core content classes, no 1’s in Citizenships/Work Habits, and no NP in their elective class
will earn Distinguished Scholar.
We are working on how we can celebrate student success beyond honor roll; we appreciate your patience as well as your input.
Dates for the honor roll breakfast reception:
6th-Wednesday, January 23 from 7:40-8:30
7th-Thursday, January 24 from 7:40-8:30
ACMS has a Facebook page. Please like us on FACEBOOK.
SHADY CREEK-DONATIONS PLEASE
Shady Creek was a huge success! If you planned to make payments or have not yet paid for your student to attend, we are still accepting money. The trip is not yet paid for and all donations are truly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support for this valuable program.
SNOW DAY AUTOMATED CALLS
There will be two calls for students and families, 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The system will default to 6:00 a.m. unless the site is notified of the earlier request. Please change in Parent Portal. Delayed starts are options still: 2 hour delay. Please download the TTUSD App.
TOUCHDOWN TAMALES! Here's your chance to win a tamale dinner, just in time for the Super Bowl! Any donation made now through January 30 will enter you in to a drawing to win a tamale dinner (one entry per person). There will be four winners per grade. Please make your donation by dropping off a check at the front office made out to "Alder Creek PTO" or by donating on the ACMS PTO website Fundraising page. We will draw the winners on January 31 and distribute tamales on February 1.
Please join us! Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 12 at 7:45 a.m. in the ACMS Staff Room. Our mission is to promote open communications between parents and staff and enrich our parent-teacher-student community. Find out more about what we’re doing on our website and share your ideas or ask questions at the PTO email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.

California recently launched the 2018 California School Dashboard, a website designed to help communities across the state access important data about K–12 districts and schools.
The site features a wealth of information on test scores, graduation rates, school attendance, college/career readiness, and suspensions. The Dashboard is part of California’s new school accountability and support framework that is empowering local communities to address the needs of their local schools.
