Which School Can Your Child Attend?
TTUSD offers a neighborhood school for all geographic regions within our district. You can view the Elementary School Attendance Boundaries Map, which designates a student's home school. However, TTUSD is an open-enrollment district which means you are welcome to apply to whichever school within the district that best fits your student and their needs. This is done during the enrollment process with an IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Form. So, feel free to attend as many of the Preview Nights as you’d like since all schools are a possibility for your student.
However, please note all students must initially enroll with their home school and submit an IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Form. As a district, we try and accommodate all IntraDistrict requests, but some requests are denied due to space limitations. Additionally, three of the elementary schools within our district have a lottery system to fill some or all of their enrollment spaces.
Lottery System
As mentioned, three schools within the district have a lottery system in place. Two utilize the lottery to fill remaining spots after all students within the home school geographic boundaries have been accommodated. Those schools are Donner Trail Elementary and Kings Beach Elementary. The third school with a lottery system is Sierra Expeditionary Learning School (SELS). SELS is a K-8 public charter school within TTUSD, and they utilize the lottery system to fill all spots as they are not tied to geographical boundaries.
Information on these schools and their unique curriculums can be found on their websites, and of course, will also be relayed at TK/Kinder Preview Nights.
Donner Trail Elementary and Kings Beach Elementary
The lottery systems for Donner Trail Elementary and Kings Beach Elementary are both handled directly through TTUSD. The process for participating in these lotteries is as follows:
-
Students must first be enrolled through the TTUSD Aeries Online Enrollment portal at their home school - the school they are geographically associated with.
-
Then, an IntraDistrict Open Enrollment Form must be submitted to their home school on or before May 31, 2023. This form is essentially your “lottery ticket”.
-
On Monday, June 5, 2023, both Donner Trail and Kings Beach randomly select enrollment forms to fill any remaining spots.
-
Families will be notified no later than June 23, 2023, if they’ve received a spot. Once they’ve confirmed attendance, the IntraDistrict Form is approved. Approved applicants must confirm their enrollment within 10 days.
Please note that students with siblings already in the school being applied for will receive priority placement in an effort to keep families together.
SELS
SELS handles its lottery system independently, not through TTUSD. Lottery applications are handed out at their Preview Night on March 23, 2023. After that date, families can also email ademm@truckeecharterschool.org to receive a lottery application. The deadline for submitting applications is noon on April 11, 2023. For more information on this process, please visit truckeecharterschool.org and look under their Enrollment tab.
We are always excited to welcome new families and students to our award-winning school district and can’t wait to meet you!
