Measure AA Senior Exemption Guidelines and Forms

We deeply value our senior community members. Measure AA includes a Senior Citizen's Exemption. If you are 65 or older on or before July 1st of the tax year, and you own and will continue to own the property, you may be eligible for an exemption from the $148 annual parcel tax. Please note that this exemption is for individual homeowners, not for corporations or partnerships.

How do eligible seniors apply for this exemption?

To claim the exemption, you can either click here for the senior citizen Measure AA parcel tax exemption form or get a claim form from the Measure AA office. Be sure to file the completed form with the District by 4:00 p.m. on June 15th before the tax year you're seeking the exemption for.

What happens if I miss the June 15th deadline?

If you file after the June 15th deadline, you may still be able to receive the exemption, but typically this would involve paying the tax in full first and then filing a claim for a refund. You'll need to provide proof of payment when requesting a refund.

What if I believe I was eligible but paid the tax?

If you think you should have been exempt and paid the tax, there is a process for filing a refund claim with the District within a specific timeframe. You'll need to include all the required information and proof of your payment. Click here for the senior citizen Measure AA parcel tax Claim for Refund Form.
