Overview of Engineering Technology Pathway

CTE Pathways are programs of study aligned around a CTE Industry Sector Theme that prepare students for College and Career. The Engineering Technology Pathway consists of three consecutive courses that end in a capstone project, industry certification, internship, and/or college articulation.

  • Engineering Design Through both individual and collaborative team activities, projects, and problems, students will problem solve as they practice common engineering design and development protocols such as project management and peer review. Students will develop skill in technical representation and documentation of design solutions according to accepted technical standards, and they will use current 3D design and modeling software to represent and communicate solutions. The development of computational methods that are commonly used in engineering problem solving, including statistical analysis and mathematical modeling, are emphasized. Ethical issues related to professional practice and product development are also presented.
  • Honors Principles of Engineering Honors Principles Of Engineering (HPOE) is a weighted high school level survey course of engineering. The course exposes students to some of the major concepts that they will encounter in postsecondary engineering course of study that is recognized by the UC and CSU system as an AP style course in terms of rigor. Students have an opportunity to investigate engineering and high tech careers. HPOE gives students the opportunity to develop skills and understanding of course concepts through activity, project, and problem-based learning. Used in combination with project-based learning challenges students continually hone their interpersonal skills, creative abilities, and problem solving skills based upon engineering concepts. It also allows students to develop strategies to enable and direct their own learning, which is the ultimate goal of education.
  • Postsecondary Level The Engineering Technology Pathway leads toward the Mechatronics program at Sierra College.
