Overview of Welding Pathway

CTE Pathways are programs of study aligned around a CTE Industry Sector Theme that prepare students for College and Career. The Welding Pathway consists of two consecutive courses, providing students with an understanding of manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in welding and related industries.

• Welding 1 This course is an introduction to welding and an exposure to metalworking basics. Students will learn proper safety practices associated with welding, perform basic welds using different types of welding equipment, and identify ferrous and nonferrous metals. Students will also learn the use of hand tools and cutting & preparation techniques as they relate to welding and fabrication. Students will take part in group and individual projects throughout the semester. 
• Welding 2 This course is meant to be a continuation of Welding 1 and will focus on building mastery of the basic techniques learned in Welding 1. This course will expose students to additional welding and fabrication processes, achieved through the use of traditional textbook study, lecture, the use of various  technology and in-shop projects. Representative topics include Advanced Welding Techniques, Advanced Oxy-Acetylene/Plasma Cutting, Introduction to Oxy Acetylene Welding and Brazing, Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Fabrication - Concept to Production, Basic Blueprint Reading, Metal Identification, and Introduction to Metallurgy.
