ELAC
Supporting English Learners: Your Voice Matters!
Does your California school have 21 or more English Learner (EL) students? If so, it has an ELAC committee – your chance to champion their success!
What is the ELAC?
The ELAC is a team of parents, teachers, and community members dedicated to supporting EL students. It's your voice in ensuring they have the resources and programs they need to thrive.
How does the ELAC help?
-
Advises the Principal and Staff: The ELAC works with the school leader and teachers to recommend effective programs and services for EL students.
-
Shapes the School Plan: The ELAC collaborates with the School Site Council on the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), ensuring EL student needs are addressed in the overall school improvement plan.
-
Supports School Initiatives: The ELAC assists the school in crucial tasks like:
-
Identifying student needs through assessments.
-
Conducting the annual language census to track EL student enrollment.
-
Raising awareness among parents about the importance of regular school attendance for their child's progress.
-
Get Involved!
Having an EL student in your family? Consider joining the ELAC! It's a powerful way to make a difference in their educational journey and for all EL students in your school.
