Local, Organic, Fresh: Elevated
What we offer daily
At Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD), our chefs take pride in serving students freshly prepared, nutritious meals every day. We're committed to using high-quality ingredients, including locally-grown and organic produce from California farms, thanks to our partners like Tahoe Food Hub and Clover Sonoma. Every delicious meal is prepared fresh daily in our school kitchens, ensuring our students get the very best.
Why is this important?
Buying organic and locally grown food is important for overall health and the resilience of our food system. For children, it significantly reduces their exposure to harmful pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics often found in conventionally produced foods. This is important given their developing bodies and immune systems. Organic produce tends to be richer in beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. For the food system, supporting local and organic agriculture fosters sustainable farming practices that protect soil health, conserve water, reduce transportation emissions, and preserve biodiversity. This strengthens local economies by keeping money within the community and builds a more secure and adaptable food supply, less vulnerable to global disruptions.
