Elementary Wellness Program

TTUSD offers a variety of wellness programs specifically designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners:

Self-Regulation Education:

Research has shown that children struggle to learn when their nervous systems are dysregulated, making it hard for them to focus, process new information and control their behavior. Nervous system dysregulation can occur from a wide variety of experiences, ranging from not getting enough sleep, to a pet dying, to conflict within the home or friend group, to more serious forms of trauma.

  • Mindfulness - Students can utilize guided meditations, breathing tools, sensory materials and mindful movement to release stress, find presence and bring their minds and bodies back to a regulated state.

  • Heart Math - HeartMath technology is an innovative approach to improving emotional wellbeing. Students use a heart rate sensor connected to a computer program where they can visually see their heart rhythm pattern and learn techniques to create physiological coherence; a scientifically measurable state where a student can achieve central nervous system regulation, allowing them to return to class ready to learn.

Peer Mentoring Programs:

TTUSD utilizes a variety of peer mentoring programs to empower more experienced students to support their less experienced peers in a structured environment.

  • GES Mentors - where 3rd-5th graders support and mentor K-2nd graders at Glenshire Elementary

  • Soul Shoppe’s Peacemaker Program is a student leadership program that trains a team of select 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade students in a peer-based restorative practice model. Student Peacemakers learn essential communication skills and conflict resolution strategies to support their peers to resolve problems peacefully

Student Support Groups:

TTUSD Wellness Staff work in partnership with School Counselors to understand and identify student needs, and offer student support groups to build skills that meet those needs. Student support groups are targeted and require a referral by school Administrators, Counselors and Wellness Staff.

Examples of elementary support groups include: high achieving, social skills, lunch bunch, mindfulness, friendship groups, and restorative circles. To learn more about student support groups at your child’s school, please visit your site’s Wellness Center page
