• Amy King is a decades-long educator, who is thrilled to be leading Donner Trail Elementary!

Mrs. King started her career in Fairfax, Virginia, teaching 6th grade at Green Acres Elementary School. She then taught 4th and 5th grades before moving to California and teaching in Tiburon, CA. At Bel Aire Elementary, Mrs. King again taught 4th and 5th grades, helped to launch a technology program and started innovating with what is now known as PBL (Project Based Learning).  After welcoming her daughter and then her son to her family, Mrs. King moved to Los Altos, CA and taught 6th grade at a K-8 charter school which specialized in Project Based Learning and focused learning goals for each student. After 5 years, the King family decided to make Donner Summit their full-time home, and Mrs. King joined the staff at ACMS in Truckee! At ACMS, Mrs. King taught 6th grade before becoming an Assistant Principal. While she loved and found joy in her middle school students, Mrs. King was delighted to move to Donner Trail as the Principal.

Mrs. King believes that loving consistency from educators and an engaging and enriching program is what every child needs to succeed, learn, and grow. She believes that Donner Trail students thrive because of the care and creativity of the staff and the relationships that are nurtured through multi-age opportunities and classrooms. She is proud to be a part of this truly magical school!
