About Ms. Van Winkle: 
Ms. Van Winkle grew up in Reno, NV. At 17 years, she was selected to be a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Chile, where she developed a passion for Latin American Culture and History and Spanish. Ms. Van Winkle has worked as a Spanish-English Interpreter, a Program Coordinator for the US State Department's Open World Russian Leadership Program at the Northern Nevada International Center in Reno, taught ESL at TMCC, Spanish at Lake Tahoe Community College, and International Studies at Sierra Nevada College, taught Pre-k through 12th grades and has been teaching for 13 years. Ms. Van Winkle is passionate about history, culture, language, identity, issues surrounding social justice and education. She decided to become a teacher because she knew early on in her life that she wanted to make a positive impact on the lives of others. She loves teaching because she has the opportunity to meet, get to know, learn from and teach some of the most amazing young people in the world.

In her free time, Ms. Van Winkle spends time outside doing all the fun Tahoe/Truckee activities with her family and friends, loves to travel abroad and currently, is pursuing a doctorate in Leadership and Change.
