Gretel Vargas

Gretel Vargas started her teaching career in Tahoe Truckee Unified School District in 2017. Prior to working in this district, she taught Kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and middle school math and science. She enjoys teaching all subjects, and is exceptionally enthusiastic about books.

If you walk into her class at just the right moment, you may find Gretel teaching American Sign Language since she used to be a Sign Language Interpreter. You may also catch her giving a demonstration for how to train marine mammals or restrain an elephant seal pup, since she used to work with the sea otters at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and volunteered at the Sausalito Marine Mammal Center. In a really good moment, you may also catch Gretel dancing with her students as part of a B-Fit break.

Gretel is delighted to live in Truckee with her husband and two small children. In her spare time, Gretel cooks, reads books to her toddlers, works on sewing projects, and teaches her children how to do somersaults. As a family, they enjoy hiking in the summer and sledding in the winter.
