Degrees and Certifications:
I am thrilled to be returning to ACMS as a resource specialist for the seventh grade. I am originally from Michigan, but have lived in Truckee for 20 years. My husband, John, and I have raised both of our sons in this wonderful mountain community. I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in teaching the Emotionally Impaired, and earned my Masters in Education in teaching the Learning Handicapped at Michigan State University. I have been a resource specialist in both Michigan and Truckee for a total of ten years with students from grades K-8. I have also taught fifth and sixth grade. When living in San Francisco, I worked as a director of a private learning center, The Reading Game. My goal as a teacher, which is stated in the book, Hanging In, is to help my students to become strong and self-reliant, and to have the tools to build a good life. Education helps to give them that power.
My favorite outside school activities include traveling, reading, cooking for my friends and family, hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, and skiing. My two favorite places to be in the world are in Truckee and in my hometown, Charlevoix, Michigan in the summer.
