For the health and safety of our students and staff, TTUSD will be closing school, effective Monday, March 16, 2020

Friday, March 13, 2020

Dear TTUSD Parents and Students,

For the health and safety of our students and staff, TTUSD will be closing school, effective Monday, March 16, 2020.

There are still NO known cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in our Tahoe Truckee community, nor are there any cases connected to TTUSD. As we shared yesterday, we have been taking proactive measures to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Placer County Superintendent of Schools Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, school district superintendents and charter school operators have decided in concurrence with Placer County Public Health to close all public schools in Placer County for the next three weeks to protect the health and safety of students and school communities. This means that Tahoe Truckee Unified School District will close temporarily, effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until April 3, 2020, to combat the potential community spread of COVID-19.

This is not a decision we take lightly, and we realize it has a huge impact on all of our families. It is critical that we protect the health and safety of our kids and our TTUSD families and we are taking this action based on what is known at this time about the transmission and severity of the illness to best protect our school communities.

As of Monday, March 16, 2020, all TTUSD schools will be closed and we will transition to a distance learning plan for students district-wide. Based on the forecast from the National Weather Service, for significant snow, Monday, March 16 will be a snow day. Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18 will be non-student days so that teachers can develop lesson plans and learning activities. There will be no school for students on Monday, March 16 - Wednesday, March 18.

Instruction will resume and distance learning will begin for all students on Thursday, March 19, 2020, remotely.  Instructional materials will be provided through arranged pickups at your child’s school or at a central location. Your child’s teacher or school staff will contact you via email and/or phone with more information on this process.

Please note, if your child is on an IEP, we will have more information for you early next week.

Beginning on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, we will be providing free meal service for all kids, 18 and under, each weekday, from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Each school day we will provide lunch and a breakfast meal for the following day. Pick up locations will be at the entrances of our TTUSD schools, except for Sierra High School and SELS, and students can access the pickup location of their choice.

While school is closed, our custodian teams will be taking additional precautionary measures to disinfect classrooms, restrooms, the multi-purpose room and frequently touched surfaces such as desks, keyboards, and doorknobs using state-recommended cleaning materials.

We will remain in close communication with the Placer County Office of Education and Placer and Nevada County Public Health professionals, and contact you as soon as we have additional information. At this time, the plan is to resume school in TTUSD on April 6, 2020 although this could change. TTUSD’s spring break is still scheduled for April 13 to April 17, 2020.

Remember to continue efforts to reduce the spread of germs by washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, cover your cough or sneeze, stay home if you are sick and continue to disinfect frequently touched surfaces. We encourage you to continue to avoid large groups of people and remain at least six feet away from others. Do not gather in other locations such as shopping malls, movie theaters or community centers even while school is closed.

Thank you for your partnership in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students, staff, families and the Tahoe Truckee community.
