Dear TTUSD Community,
COVID-19 has brought unimaginable challenges for parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and board members. We’re living through something we’ve never experienced before, and everyone is adjusting and managing these challenges each day, all while striving to do what’s best for our students.
At TTUSD, we’re committed to providing the best education possible within the confines COVID-19 presents. What is clear is that there is no perfect teaching and learning model with COVID-19, and all of the safety measures needed.
As educators, we know that in-person instruction is best for students. Ever since we closed our school facilities in March 2020, our goal has been to reopen our schools when deemed safe by the state. We have been very thoughtful about doing what’s best for our students while accommodating various needs and interests. We’ve tried to be as creative as possible and develop the most effective model to reopen our schools in as safe a manner as possible.
At this afternoon’s Special Board of Education meeting regarding reopening our schools, Superintendent Carmen Ghysels gave a detailed presentation including background information on our current situation, how we got here, how our district has adapted to the COVID-19, and the safety preparations in place. Principals also shared what the hybrid model would look like by grade levels. (Click here to view the presentation.)
There was an hour of public comments related to reopening our schools in a hybrid model of education. In a 4-1 vote, the board approved a transition to a hybrid model of instruction in October. The transition date is October 14, with Thursday, October 15 as the first day our campuses are open to students. This timeframe is contingent that the few outstanding criteria outlined today, are completed prior to reopening.
We all care tremendously about the safety of our students and staff and we will continue to move forward and provide the best educational experience in the safest way possible.
The cohort assignments will be noted in the Aeries parent portal by end of the day Friday and we will provide our next update on Friday morning and will include instructions on how to access cohort information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your partnership in serving our kids.
