A huge loss for Truckee and our entire community
We are all still reeling from shock at losing one of our own, Bob Shaffer, this past weekend. Truckee High’s beloved PE teacher and former football coach was tragically killed in car crash on Saturday evening.
Coach Shaffer has been with Truckee High since 1994 and has had a positive impact on the lives of so many in our community. He loved his job and the kids, and it showed.
Coach Shaffer was one of those people that knew every kid, connected with them, and could reach them in a special way. An inspiration to all, he was the kind of coach that made the students want to do better in every part of their life. He really cared about the students, and they knew it and this made them want to be the best they could be. Coach Shaffer has been a rock and a mentor for generations of athletes and students.
As the football coach, Coach Shaffer led our Truckee High Wolverines to 14 league titles and four straight NV State Championships. In 2014, he was inducted into the NIAA Hall of Fame.
We lost a great, kind man on Saturday night and Coach Shaffer will be sorely missed by all of us at TTUSD and in the Tahoe Truckee community.
Many people have been asking what they can do to help during this difficult time. While there is no date yet for services, a memorial fund has been established to assist the Shaffer family with medical expenses and service costs. A "gofundme" page has been created as well.
