TTUSD Safely Transitioning to Hybrid Learning

Thank you, students and families for your patience, questions, support, and honesty as Truckee El plans with the district to transition into our hybrid learning model.  What is the best way to stay informed?  Please read all information carefully that comes from our superintendent, Ms. Carmen Ghysels, and information sent on behalf of Ms. Ghysels  from Kelli Twomey, our district’s Coordinator of Communications.  Also, please check the TTUSD website at frequently for updated frequently asked questions and district planning.

  • The TTUSD Board of Education is hosting a special board meeting to consider the transition to a hybrid model of instruction. The meeting begins at 3:00 p.m. at can be live-streamed. See link on the website for agenda and link to Live Stream.

What will hybrid learning look like at Truckee El? Here is some basic information to start!

-When will we see the actual schedule? We have a DRAFT of what hybrid learning will look like.  However, we are not sharing that with families yet because we are still getting input from all teachers to make sure we are as successful!

-Will my children be in Cohort A or B?  Schools are developing cohorts with several factors in mind.  Siblings and households will be in the same cohort. While last name by alphabet has helped a little to divide the cohorts, we are concentrating much more on creating balanced classes for learning needs and social-emotional support. We cannot honor requests for cohorts, unfortunately.

-When will families learn if they are in Cohort A or B? Once all schools have completed the cohort assignments, the Cohort A, B, or C will be in your Aeries Portal.  Directions on how to find that will come too!  The plan is to have that all ready for families and announce cohorts on Friday, October 2.

-What is the general schedule for Hybrid Learning at TES?

Cohort A: Drop off begins at 8:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays. In-person learning 8:45-12:45 on Monday and Tuesday, Distance Learning for all students 8:30-1:00 on Wednesday, and at home distance learning activities with an afternoon teacher check-in on Thursday and Friday.

Cohort B: At home distance learning activities with an afternoon teacher check-in on Monday and Tuesday, distance learning for all students 8:30-1:00 on Wednesday, and in-person learning 8:45-12:45 on Thursday and Friday. Morning drop off begins at 8:30.

-What does AA/BB mean? The hybrid model will be “AA/ DL/ BB” which means students in Cohort A will come to school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, all students will have distance learning on Wednesdays, and Cohort B will come to school on Thursdays and Fridays.  When a Cohort is not in school, the students will be working at home with asynchronous learning (recorded lessons, independent activities) for the day with an afternoon check-in by your classroom teacher.

-What about year-long distance learning option? Students who are opting for year-long distance learning will be in Cohort C (“Connected”) and doing at-home learning five days a week.  Cohort C will be assigned to follow either Cohort A or Cohort B for a learning schedule even though the child will not be in-person.

Cub Tips!

Attendance Cub Tip: Parents! Please remember that our school day is 8:30-1:00. During that time students have access to their teacher, class meetings, and class work that is due that day! If something comes up and you’re not able to participate during the day (i.e. doctor’s appointment, dentist, family emergency, etc.) you CAN still participate after the 1:00 hour to count for your students’ attendance for the day. Please do communicate with your child’s teacher if they won’t be “in class” that day but they’ll be doing their work after the 1:00 hour. Your child’s teacher will then check their work the next day and can clear up their absence.

Cub Character Trait: The character traits for this month is RESPECT and CHARACTER. Respect means to think well of, to honor, or care about, or have a good opinion of. Character is what you do when you think no one else is looking.

Weekly Cub Character Question:What’s one goal you have for yourself this year in developing character?

Last week’s Cub Buck Winners were:

Eduardo Amrbiz, First Grader, from Mrs. Rodarte’s class for being responsible and Respectful--he logged in to his Cub Character lesson all by himself and gave insightful and thoughtful answers during our book read aloud.

Dax Watters, Fifth Grader, from Ms. Hendrickson and Ms. Ravey’s classes for being Safe, Responsible, and Respectful! Dax was so focused during his time with Ms. Margi.

Corbin Althoff, Fifth Grader, from Mrs. Flynn’s and Ms. Ravey’s classes for being afe, Responsible, and Respectful--because of a glitch on Lexia Corbin had to take his test AGAIN! He did it without any complaints and worked very hard!

Last week’s Principal Prides were:

Isla Laliotis, Fifth Grader, from Ms. Cook’s class. Isla was  the first student in Truckee El to take an AR test and scored a 10/10!!! Way to go Isla!

This week’s Principal Prides and Cub Buck winners will be announced Monday!
